Rumours are rife as to why Smith left Huesca. He had begun to assemble a good squad with players like Eljero Elia, William Vainqueur and Joey Barton to name a few and clearly had the backing of the chairman. However, just a matter of weeks later, he has swapped sunny Spain for the Northern town of Grimsby who will compete in England's basement division next season. No doubt Smith's transfer targets will have to be of a lower standard from his time at Huesca, as reports suggest he only has around £10 million to rebuild a Grimsby squad that, according to pundits, in its current state will also struggle in division 5.
Smith was cagey about his reasons for returning to his native England so soon after leaving for Spain but did have this to say: "When I was contacted about the Grimsby job I have to say I was very intrigued. Its a huge challenge and one that Im looking forward to undertaking. The last few weeks of the season will give me chance to get some bodies in to make us competitive for next year. The chairman has made it clear to me that changes need to be made here and I have to say I agree."
One thing is for sure, the fans of Grimsby Town that we spoke to today were excited for what lies ahead. Its widely agreed that this season was highly disappointing and that perhaps, just perhaps, this could be the start of a great new era.
Great stuff Craig... look forward to reading more
ReplyDeleteSo, Craig - if that's your real name - you can't fool us.
ReplyDeleteYou left Huesca over your involvement with the Spanish Royal family's degenerate corruption, didn't you?
Admit it. Luxury Elephant-hunting trips, romps with Princess Cristina (not one of the aforementioned elephants, incidentally) and millions of Euros mysteriously embezzled in Magaluf's houses of sin and debauchery.
Welcome, you'll fit right in. As my kit-man Obi Wan reminds me daily, "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
