Only an hour after Sunderlands final game of the season manager Neil Frankland sat down over a nice bottle of Chablis with famous reporter Fannie Licker (pictured below) to discuss the season that has just been completed. Here is what he had to say:
1) Tell us Neil how would you rate your season on a scale of 1-10? And why? I would have to give myself a 6 if i'm honest. Our target was promotion and its a target we have obviously missed after last nights defeat at Fulham.I think we have improved the quality of the squad and next season we will be pushing for promotion again.
2) What has been your brightest spark of the season? Which 3 players have impressed you the most at Sunderland and why?The fans have been top drawer,to average over 35,000 at home is amazing, and we look forward to playing in front of them next season.Ignacio Scocco has been outstanding this season with 11 goals and 14 assists.Johannes Geis has gone form strength to strength in midfield and many have been touting him as a future German international.I would also like to give a shout out to Francesco Acerbi who although he's still struggling with is English has settled in really well and is showing his class at centre back.
3) Are you letting the lads go on holiday individually or have you picked a special destination for a team holiday? What are the plans? The lads are free to go and enjoy themselves,i think it's really important that they have some quality time with their families.I'm hoping they all come back refreshed and up for the challenge which next season will bring.
4) Are you likely to be busy in the transfer market? And are you likely to be doing your shopping at Lidl, Aldi, Sainsburys or Waitrose over the break? We do have some funds to spend, but i'm keeping quiet on my targets.
5) Finally do you have any players you think should be going to the World Cup and if so do you think this will have a negative impact on them next season? We do have a couple of players involved and they'll be fine.I'll not be watching it though,as i'll be on the beach in Tenerife soaking up the sun and having a few beers.See you next season.
Fannie's getting around isn't she, lol! Enjoy your deserved break and better luck next season Neil!
