DERBY COUNTY PRESS CONFERENCE - 12TH FEBRUARY 2015

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I am Andrew Appleby, chairman of Derby County Football Club and beside me I have our owner Sam Rush and our manager Gordon Kinnear. I have called this conference as we have an announcement to make that could make all the difference in our challenge for promotion to Division 1.

To make the announcement and to take any questions that you may have, I hand you over to our manager Gordon Kinnear.
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. As you know our bid for promotion is going down to the last two games. Ourselves and Leeds United both have the same ambition and we are leaving no stone unturned in our effort to secure a place in the top flight next season. Unfortunately our bid suffered a couple of blows recently. Last night we lost to Southampton although that blow was softened by Leeds' home defeat to Blackburn. Another blow was the calf injury that Raul Bobadilla suffered in the game at Fulham. We had hoped we would have him back in time for the game at Preston, however the injury was worse than we thought and he won't play again this season.
Last night showed that our cover in the striking position was not good enough and we had a discussion on what way we should go to try and secure promotion. Well, after some hard work behind the scenes, we are delighted to announce that Bayern Munich striker Moreno Rodrigo has joined us on loan. He is 23 years old and despite limited chances at Bayern, he scored 4 goals in the 3 games he played. We think he will be a fantastic replacement for Raul in these last two games and we are confident that he can help us seal that second automatic promotion place. I introduce Moreno Rodrigo. (applause)
Moreno Rodrigo joins Derby on loan
Ok, I am open to questions.
Hi Gordon, Obadiah Bubblethrob, Derby Evening Telegraph: Do you not think that it is a game too late? Maybe if you had done this a few days ago then you may have got a better result against Southampton?

Yeah, I see what you are saying but I thought I should give the strikers we already had here a chance to show they could do the job. Chris Martin and Samuel Armenteros have 15 goals in 18 games between them so I think they deserved that chance.

Dick Cox, Daily Mail: What makes you think Moreno will fire you to promotion. He has just arrived and only has two games to settle to the Division 2 style of play but you are already putting him under pressure to score the goals that you need. A bit unfair?

We put a lot of thought into this move and we decided the loan system was the way to go. Moreno's record speaks for itself. He has only played three times for Bayern Munich but scored 4 goals. We are not putting him under pressure to score the goals we need. We will work hard with him in training tomorrow and help him settle with the players. We are confident he can hit the ground running and will offer something different up front. You come and ask me the same question after the Sheffield United game.

Fannie Licker, Yorkshire Evening Post: You have to admit that Leeds United deserve promotion more than Derby. They are more talented and if it wasn't for a couple of unlucky defeats then they would have sealed promotion by now.

Really? You really think that. Listen to me, whats your name again? Fannie? Fannie by name, Fannie by nature. No one deserves promotion more than my guys. My guys have worked their butt off all season and if you think that shower of shite from Yorkshire deserve it more than us then you should pop down to the Royal down the road and have your head examined. They haven't beaten us this season. We beat them at the Ipro and drew at their dump so how are they more deserving. If you asked that question to try and wind me up then it worked. John Vinicombe and his side are no users and it would be a travesty if their style of play and their thugs in defence were to play in the top league. We WILL win promotion and the rest of the country should be hoping we do as we will be a refreshing addition to the top league. I'm done, press conference over
Kinnear stormed off the stage with  Rodrigo leaving the Chairman to close the conference.
