After promotion last season from Division 3, the new season for the Posh represents a new challenge in Division 2. Posh boss Lee Reynolds caught up with the local rag The Peterborough Evening Telegraph and it's local Posh reporter Alan Swann.
Alan - Last season was a fantastic achievement in your first season getting the Posh promoted, what are your expectations/goals for the new season in Division 2?
Lee- Well hello and I hope this is proof read before it goes to press. It is important we carry the momentum from last season into this. Most of the squad is still here and there is a great togetherness, our aim is to consolidate and then build from there.
Alan- Don't worry I'll get the junior proof reading this. Khouma Babacar was one of the main reason for your success last season, can he fire a level up?
Lee- Of course he can. He is young, hungry, strong and powerful. He is very confident and I'm sure with the right service as well he can make an impact at this level.
In demand Striker Babacar gives his thumbs up in training
Lee- Yes there was an offer but it was nowhere near our valuation of the player.
Alan- 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat in pre-season. How do you feel your plans have gone?
Lee- Preparations for the new campaign have gone well. Only 1 defeat to a strong Udinese is good preparations. We had a summer training camp in Syria, yes Syria. Well it was cheap and the lads did plenty of running.
Alan- Transfers. Gayle is back and a new goalkeeper but not a major overhaul?
Lee- No. We felt the squad new tweaking in a few areas. Bringing Dwight Gayle back was always in my thoughts. Tom Parfitt at Palace was a pleasure to deal with in a deal which saw Andre Gray move the other way. Cenk Gonan has arrived from Besiktas taking the number one jersey and Miliko Albornoz has joined from Hanover.
Alan- The loan market is one area you have done well in?
Lee- Really happy with Garcia, Ward Prowse and Cartabia arriving which adds extra quality and strength to the squad. I have to thank the 3 managers for the deals.
Alan- How is Miss Posh these days? Can you really confirm you are an item?
Lee- She's well and enjoyed the World Cup while I was doing TV work. We get on and things have developed. She took a shine to JV and The Doc, plus most of the US team.
Alan- Has Mr Posh beaten the booze?
Lee- He is still in rehab that is all I can say on the matter.
Posh open their campaign at home to Bolton Wanderers with a 10,000+ crowd expected. It is a sure to a real test this season one in which Reynolds men are prepared and ready for.
