Wednesday prevail in thriller

Sheffield Wednesday overcame a 2-0 deficit to turn the match around and win 3-2 against Brighton at Hillsborough. After an opening win away at Sheffield United, a cup defeat at Yeovil and unlucky home defeat to high-flying Bristol City had dampened spirits slightly.

Wednesday were under the cosh for much of this match, and were fortunate to win. Things couldn't have got off to a worse start. After Ings and Casemiro had already gone close, Danny Ings opened the scoring for the visitors on 8 minutes. Tunisian Wahbi Khazri produced a magnificent cross, with Ings unleashing a smashing volley past Eiji Kawashima

This should have woken the hosts up, but Brighton continued to press, with Van Dijk and Ben Yedder going close soon after. Wednesday were asleep, and on 25 minutes, Branimir Hrgota made them pay. Oleg Shatov played a long ball to the Swedish attacker, who fired home an unstoppable shot to make double Albion's lead.

Wednesday improved a little bit after this setback, with Rudnevs and Montero going close, but failed to find a way past Mathew Ryan, meaning at half time, the score was

It seemed the second half was going to continue in the same fashion, with Kawashima saving well to deny Hrgota his second goal, and a few minutes later, that save proved even more crucial.

On 54 minutes, Rudnevs held the ball up well, finding Spanish winger Aleix Vidal, who smashed the ball home to score his second of the season and get the Owls back into the match.

3 minutes later Kawashima made another save to deny Mulgrew, and after a slight lull in the game, Wednesday equalised.

71 minutes had gone, and a crucnhing tackle, Ragnar Klavan thumped a long ball up the pitch. Latvian Artjoms Rudnevs collected, and he rolled the ball past Ryan and into the back of the net. 2-2.

6 minutes later and the comeback was complete. Enner Valencia, who's been fantastic since arriving from Juventus, rolled the ball to Burkina Faso winger Jonathan Pitroipa. Pitroipa took his time, and smashed the ball past Ryan to send Hillsborough mad. The Owls saw the remaining 13 minutes out, to seal a fantastic win against a side that's sure to be battling near the top of the table. That's 6 points in 3 now, with the only league loss an unfortunate defeat to top of the table Bristol City.
